50 Goan Seafarers Stuck on Diamond Princess Cruise Ship hit by Corona Virus Onboard

The Corona Virus which started from China’s Wuhan city has slowly spread across the world and anything and everything that connects with the travel across the globe came under the scanner of the coronavirus. In one of the recent case of Cruise Ship being hit by the Coronavirus have discovered that there are several Goan Seafarers who work on the said Cruise-liner are stuck onboard of Diamond Princess.

The news of nearly 50 Goan seafarers struck on board of Diamond Princess Cruise Liner hit by the Corona Virus has reached to their relatives in Goa and families of the said seafarers have become extremely worried about the safety of their kins, claimed the report. 

According to the reports, the Diamond Princess Cruise Liner carrying nearly 3000 crew members and passengers which includes 50 Goans among the 138 Indians have been hit by the Coronavirus and every passing day is increasing the risk of growing infection amongst the crew members and passengers, said the sources.

Indians onboard of Diamond Princess

The Commissioner for NRI Affairs (Goa) Narendra Sawaikar told the media that he is working on getting more information about the Goan seafarers on-board and he has also requested the Indian Embassy about submitting the report on the current situation onboard of Diamond Princess.   

“The families of the Goan seafarers are extremely worried and anxious to know about the well being of their family members who are on board the cruise ship.  In view of the above, the NRI Commission, Government of Goa would be highly obliged, if the Embassy of India would kindly appraise us on the current status of the Goan seafarers onboard the ship.  The assistance from your office would be highly appreciated and this would enable us to inform the concerned family members accordingly,” Sawaikar said in a letter to the Ambassador of India, Embassy of India, Tokyo, on Monday.

Commissioner for NRI Affairs (Goa) Narendra Sawaikar has approached the Embassy of India in Tokyo seeking the status of the health of Goans stranded on the ship as the number of Indians on board the coronavirus-hit cruise ship Diamond Princess increases every passing day.

The total number of Indians infected with the virus has reached 14 till Monday even as the Embassy conceded; it hoped no additional Indian nationals onboard the cruise liner would test positive for coronavirus. 

The Diamond Princess Cruise Liner with more than 3,000 crew members and passengers have been on the ship when it was docked off the coast of Yokohama due to the virus scare last month.
