In the centre of Panaji, the capital of Goa sits the lovely Latin Quarter known as Fontainhas. It’s a great spot to see how European architecture, culture, and cuisine have influenced Goa’s way of life. Here are some suggestions for an authentically European day in Fontainhas

A classic Portuguese breakfast of Pao com Manteiga (bread with butter) and Bica (espresso) is a great way to start the day. Visit one of the charming cafés in Fontainhas to indulge in this meal.

Post breakfast, take a leisurely stroll through the narrow alleys of Fontainhas, which are lined with brilliantly painted homes, red-tiled roofs, and wrought-iron balconies, to explore the neighbourhood’s vibrant streets.

Explore the area around Fontainhas’ Latin Quarter, which is distinguished by its brightly coloured homes, congested streets, and historic architecture. To gain a sense of the region’s colonial heritage, you can visit some of the historic houses, such as the Figueiredo House, the Bragança House, or the Menezes-Bragança House.

Remember to visit the famous St. Sebastian Church, which is famous for its stunning blue and white azulejo tiles. Some popular tours cover the area’s colonial heritage, architecture, and culture.

Visit the Houses of Goa Museum, which showcases replicas of traditional Goan homes, furniture, and artwork as a tribute to the state’s Indo-Portuguese architecture. Eat some Goan-Portuguese food for lunch; this region is well known for its fusion of Goan and Portuguese cooking. Visit a nearby restaurant to sample some of the specialities including chicken cafreal, pork vindaloo, and fish curry rice.

Take a walk along the Mandovi River, which borders Fontainhas, to unwind by the water. In order to observe the lovely view of the city from the river, you can also take a leisurely boat ride.

In the evening, Fontainhas comes alive with a vibrant nightlife scene. A sunset cocktail is an ideal way to end a wonderful day. Visit a rooftop bar to enjoy a drink and the city’s breathtaking sunset.
