Goa, renowned for its vibrant football culture, has produced countless talented players who have made significant contributions to Indian football. Among these emerging stars is Brison Fernandes, a young footballer with aspirations to elevate Goa’s name on the international stage.
Hailing from the picturesque village of Loutolim in South Goa, Brison’s passion for football ignited at the tender age of ten. “Growing up in Loutolim, I fell in love with the game early on,” he shares. His professional journey began when he signed with Salgaocar’s U14 team, where he played as a striker for two formative years. Brison’s career took a pivotal turn in the 2016-17 season when he joined FC Goa, a significant step in his quest for greatness.
For Brison, football transcends mere sport; it’s a mental challenge where strategic decision-making plays a crucial role. “Every situation on the pitch requires a different decision, and learning the basics involves understanding the right choices,” he explains. He credits his coaches for their invaluable mentorship, which has shaped his abilities and propelled him to his current position.
Challenges are an inevitable aspect of any athlete’s career, and Brison is no stranger to them. “Injuries and limited playing opportunities are common hurdles for footballers,” he acknowledges. “I’ve faced my share of setbacks, but my coaches instilled in me the importance of self-belief and perseverance. Tough times pass, and I view challenges as opportunities for growth.” This resilient mindset has prepared him to seize future opportunities whenever they arise.
Reflecting on his competitive journey, Brison highlights his participation in several key events. He played for the FC Goa Developmental Team in prestigious leagues such as the AIFF Elite League, the GFA U20 First Division League, the Goa Pro League, the Goa Police Cup, and the Reliance Foundation Development League. “In 2019, I was fortunate to win the Goa Pro League and the Police Cup with the Development Team. The following year, I was promoted to the first team and celebrated a memorable victory in the Durand Cup. This season in the ISL, scoring two goals at Fatorda in front of friends and family was a dream come true,” he recalls, beaming with pride.
Ambition fuels Brison’s journey, and he sets high standards for himself. “One of my major goals until last year was to start an ISL match for FC Goa, and I achieved that in December. It was a significant moment that validated my progress and motivated me to strive for more,” he reflects. Looking ahead, Brison is determined to secure a starting position under his coach, Carlos Pena, and aims to contribute to FC Goa’s success. “I want to win the ISL League Winners’ Shield, the ISL Trophy, the Super Cup, and any other accolades while representing FC Goa,” he asserts passionately.
Moreover, Brison harbors a cherished dream of donning the national colors. “Every young footballer aspires to play for the Indian National Team, and it would be an immense honor for me to represent my country on the international stage,” he concludes.
