In today’s living on the edge kind of world everyone needs to have enrolled to some medical policy scheme as you never know when the emergency may strike and in Goa the Government have made a special provision for its inhabitants and it is called as DDSSY (Din Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana) under which the family of four get completely covered for any medical emergency.

If you haven’t registered for the DDSSY as yet, Here’s your chance to know about this Government of Goa Health Insurance Scheme. A medical emergency can occur at any time. This is the reason why we take health insurance policies so that when such emergencies occur, we do not have to worry about finances.

Various companies are offering health insurance with different kinds of benefits and features, covering up all kinds of medical conditions at multiple hospitals all over.

As good as all these health insurance schemes sound, they all have one major disadvantage. The monthly premium is too expensive.

Medical Emergency can happen any moment and you need to be ready for it

To counter this, the Government of Goa, launched its own health insurance scheme called the Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana or DDSSY. This scheme was started with the sole aim of having comprehensive health insurance, being made available to people from different walks of life.

The DDSSY is a comprehensible cashless health insurance policy that is offered to every resident of Goa. The policy is uniform across all residents and falls under two main values.

A family of 3 or less is offered a sum of 2.5 lakhs per annum, while a family of 4 or more is offered a sum of 4 lakhs per annum.

The main advantage here is regardless of your health condition, you can apply for the scheme and have it take effect immediately.

As per the DDSSY scheme, any person residing in the State of Goa, for 5 years or more is eligible to avail of this scheme. The only ones who are not eligible are Central & State Government employees and their families who are already covered under Government medical reimbursement.

How you go about it?

In order to register, applicants need to submit an Aadhar Card copy of every family member, residence proof of every eligible family member, and a ration card copy along with the form collected from the nearest health center.

All copies need to be self-attested. The registration costs Rs. 250/- per annum for a family of 3 or less and Rs.300/- per annum for a family of 4 or more. Renewal of the scheme happens every year between July 1st and August 31st.

The benefits under this scheme will be provided on a cashless basis to the beneficiaries. This scheme covers around 447 procedures including cardiology, neurology, oncology and gynecology, general medicine including medication for debilitating disorders like epilepsy, Multiple sclerosis, and cerebral palsy.

Similar to most insurance policies, DDSSY covers mainly procedures that require admission (though there are few exceptions) across the majority of the private and public hospitals in Goa and select hospitals outside Goa, in the states of Belgaum, Mangalore, and Bangalore.

Since this is a cashless scheme, the beneficiary simply needs to approach the dedicated DDSSY counter at any of the above hospitals and present their card along with the necessary paperwork on the admission of the patient. The DDSSY scheme will, in turn, cover all incurred expenses, including accommodation in the general ward, the cost of the procedure, and all medication associated with the admission.
