Goa Tourism is set to host a spectacular celebration commemorating the 350th Coronation Anniversary of the legendary Maratha warrior king, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Scheduled for the 18th and 19th of February 2024 in Bicholim, this event promises to be a majestic tribute to the valor and legacy of Shivaji Maharaj.

In a press conference led by the Hon’ble Minister of Tourism of Goa, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, alongside distinguished guests including Dr. Chandrakant Shetye, MLA of Bicholim, and Mr. Premendra Shet, MLA of Mayem Constituency, the details of the event were unveiled.

The festivities kick off on the 18th of February with the Akhil Goa Veshbhusha Spardha, featuring traditional ceremonies such as the ‘Deep Prajwalan’ and an invocation song. The evening will be highlighted by the All Goa Mahila Fugdi Spardha, celebrating the essence of womanhood through the vibrant Goan dance form.

On the 19th of February, Bicholim will witness a vibrant rally from Bordem to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Maidan, showcasing live enactments of the coronation act and captivating performances by cultural groups, including Dindi, Lezim, Dhol Tashe, and Patak.

The evening will be graced by esteemed dignitaries including Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of State for Tourism Mr. Shripad Naik, and MP Rajya Sabha Mr. Sadanand Shet Tanavade, among others. A cultural program titled “MARATHI PAUL PADTE PUDHE” by a Mumbai troupe will enthrall the audience at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maidan, Bicholim.

Furthermore, an iconic moment awaits as a Shivaji Maharaj Statue will be unveiled near IHM college in Porvorim, attended by prominent figures such as Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Union Minister Shripad Naik.

The day’s celebrations will continue with an inaugural function followed by a captivating cultural program featuring traditional dances like Lezim and Koli, along with stage performances portraying the legendary figure of Shivaji.

Adding a unique learning dimension, an exhibition of weapons and coins from Shivaji Maharaj’s regime will be held at DIET hall in Porvorim, inviting schools for an enriching experience from 18th to 20th February.

In the words of Hon’ble Minister Rohan A. Khaunte, “As we approach Shivaji Maharaj’s 350th anniversary, celebratory events across various locations in Goa aim to preserve our history and heritage. The festivities will engage youth and local communities, symbolizing Shivaji Maharaj’s timeless legacy.”
