Born in Karnataka but deeply connected to Goa through her father, Shreya embraced the state’s vibrant culture while her mother’s Coorgi roots kept her anchored in the mountains and the rich aroma of coffee. Early on, Shreya excelled academically and in sports at Father Agnels Ashram in Verna, showcasing remarkable talent and discipline.
However, her transition to Mushtifund High School in Cujira presented unforeseen challenges. Shreya found it difficult to juggle her academic responsibilities and extracurricular activities, and the confidence she once had began to wane. Yet, her passion for dance emerged as a beacon of hope in the face of adversity.
At just eight years old, Shreya’s dance journey commenced with a blend of Kathak and hip-hop. It wasn’t long before her mother recognized her deep-seated love for Bharatanatyam and enrolled her at Kalangana Dance Institute in Margao. As the family relocated to Panjim, they sought out the esteemed Mrs. Nidhi Sanke, whose expert guidance reignited Shreya’s passion and dedication to Bharatanatyam.
Shreya’s path to success was not devoid of hurdles. Her journey from solo practice sessions in her bedroom to captivating performances on grand stages has been marked by unwavering commitment. She has participated in a myriad of events, including the inaugural function of Pink Force and performances at Ravindra Bhavan and Lok Utsav Cancona, where she impressively secured first place among 120 competitors.
Her dedication is evident, having completed seven years of Bharatanatyam and successfully passed four exams with distinction. Later, she prepared for her fifth exam, while her aspiration remained to complete all eight, along with earning a degree in Bharatanatyam. While her ultimate ambition is to pursue a medical career, her passion for dance remains a vital aspect of her identity.
What sets Shreya apart is her resilience in the face of criticism. Despite encountering setbacks, making mistakes, and facing embarrassment, she never allowed negativity to deter her from her passion. Her journey underscores the importance of a strong support system, including her loving parents and a teacher who provided her with invaluable opportunities. Shreya’s determination to pursue what she loves shines through in her achievements.
